Okay, I don't know details, but what a dick. No offense--he seems really, really cool otherwise, but parents should be supportive. And unless you're a delinquent drop-out with a prison record and bruises from heroin needles on your arms, which you aren't, they should do everything they can to help you.
Not that I have/had perfect parents (we all know this, haha!) but his stuff isn't what you need right now.
