I don't think I want to be an English major anymore. I don't think I can be an English major anymore.

Rozelle's class has made me realize that... I don't like it. I don't like doing literary crit. I don't like writing about other people's stuff. I want to write my own stuff.

And... I've been feeling like this pretty much all semester, but I haven't had any idea what else I could major in.

I hate that class. I mean, a lot of it is interesting, and Rozelle's actually pretty funny. But I hate it. It doesn't mean anything to me. It has no value. And it's what I would be doing for the rest of undergrad, as far as I can tell. And I don't wanna do it anymore. I'm sick of these damn essays and papers about some dead guy's writing. Ugh.

So I've been trying to think of what else I could do. And tonight I talked with my mom about this idea I've been kicking around in my head for a while. I think I want to do some sort of activism/advocacy for the queer community.

And that's so vague, I know, but it's more of an idea than I've ever had for what to do as an English major. And well... I think this is more necessary, if that makes sense.

So, I may need to change majors, but I'm not sure to what. I was thinking sociology, but I don't know. I think I'm going to talk to a prof here in the near future. The one I have in mind is really nice, and should actually be helpful; I also know from some previous conversations that she's queer-friendly, so I can be up-front about my possible new plan.

So... yeah. Thoughts?

In other news, yay! I got to hang out with Alice yesterday! I saw her apartment and met her roommate (he's hilarious). Then we (Alice and I, that is. Jordan had to go to work) went to Wal-Mart, where I bought some rainbow ribbon, a giant candy bar, and a bracelet-making kit thing (yay beads). Then we went to Starbucks to annoy Jordan. I got some sort of pumpkin spice drink. It was delicious. Then we went back to the apartment and watched some tv, followed by watching 300 and eating pizza. Yaaaaay!

In other news, I saw Emmy on Friday and we did some shopping, mostly of the window variety, lol. I got a couple of things, but I'm not going to say what they are until I've had a chance to show a couple of y'all in person. (I got something very lulzy! :D )

Also, what the fuck is up with lemon pie that's... not lemony? You know, the kind that's really sweet without any tart/sour in it. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of lemon pie? :P

Oh! And when Emmy and I were out and about, we saw Alice! :D :D That's exciting 'cause we haven't seen or heard from her since graduation, basically. (I added her on myspace the day before we saw her, lol. Also, Amelia found me. Myspace, you're not a total waste after all.)

So, I don't think I'm going to go to MOG anymore. (MOG is an on-campus gaming group for the non UM-folk) I had a really fun time last year, especially fall semester, because it was a fun, friendly place to hang out in and I didn't really have any friends here yet. I've just been slowly losing interest since then. I still enjoy the atmosphere, though, and would go and say hi and get some drawing done. But, well...

There's a lot of offensive language that gets thrown around. A lot of people there use gay in a derogatory way, and "fag" gets tossed around a lot. I've also heard jokes about Jewish people and on and on. And it makes me really uncomfortable. Most of the MOG folks are generally pretty nice, but I don't want to be around that kind of thing, you know? And it's not really an arguement I feel like having right now, particularly since I was losing interest anyway. So I think I'm going to just quietly stop going, and if anybody asks, I'll tell them, but I'm not going to make a big deal out of it.

Yeah, I dunno. Serious post is serious. (Also, can there be pan pride merch plz? I've only found a couple of t-shirts that I'm not too crazy about.)

I'm so bad at explaining pansexuality. ;_; I inadvertently outed myself to one of my friends yesterday- she was cool and all, she just didn't know what it was- and I kind of flailed around trying to explain it. Fortunately, she's the kind of person who will either ask me again, or look it up (lol, fellow MAP scholar), so it's not really a problem, but still. I need a better way to explain it.

Part of the problem, I think, is that a lot of people aren't used to thinking of gender as fluid, so they don't really see how pan is any different from bi. (I mean, they're kinda the same, but kinda not.) And I'm not really equipped to explain gender to people at random, you know? :P

I dunno. It's just kinda frustrating that almost no one ever knows what pan means.

In other news, SAFE is putting up actually useful posters this year! With a room number and everything! :D

Also, the first week of classes is almost over. French and German are pretty much the same as before. (And lol, we're not going to have German for the next two weeks. I told Frau Diewald not to get sick this time) Sociology seems like it'll be okay. Advanced World Lit might be obnoxious, but it's hard to tell yet. The teacher's one of those... handwavey Trelawny-ish English teachers, if you know what I mean. And Intro to the Major is... informative. The teacher seems to trying to crush all our spirits. :\ Today was better than Tuesday. I think it's just one of those classes. You know, the ones that eat your soul a little.
